Match Report: Yorkshire Post: 2nd January 1920:

LEEDS UNITED DEFEAT HULL CITY RESERVES

Fortunately the weather improved before this match commenced at the Elland Road Ground, Leeds, but the playing pitch was in a very sticky condition. The usual band of Association enthuisiasts watched the play, and the majority left the match in a contented frame of mindalthough the home club only won by a single goal. The result was not a correct reflexion of of the team's cleverness, for in the second-half the United were nearly always the better side Hull only testing the home defence on one occasion.

No scoring took place in the first half , although both goalkeepers were highly tried, Rounds in particular bringing off a smart save from Edwards, who sent the ball in from short-range. Immediately the game was restarted, Leeds commenced to press .severely, and had Buckley shown a little more generalship, goal must have come early on their behalf . As it was twenty minutes elapsed before before the United took the lead through a smart effort by Birtles. Hull never looked like wiping off the arrears, in fact Rogers all but scored a second Leeds goal just before the whistle blew.
